About Tensi
Tensie J. Taylor is from Louisburg, North Carolina. She graduated from North Carolina State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication—Media concentration—and a minor in Psychology. After receiving her BA, Tensie worked at the University of North Carolina (UNC) General Administration for the president of NC colleges and universities, President Bowles. In her role, she served on committees to help increase retention and graduation rates of students. She was also on a committee that assisted community college students in gaining access to four-year universities.
After working at UNC General Administration, Tensie returned to her alma mater, North Carolina State University (NCSU), to work for the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) as a Diversity Program Coordinator. Tensie created and executed programs centered around diversity to educate faculty, staff, students, and NCSU community members about pertinent issues, such as hate speech vs. free speech. Tensie thoroughly enjoys working with students, mentoring them, and listening to their concerns to effect necessary change.
In 2012, Tensie moved to Los Angeles, CA to begin pursuit of her master's degree in education at the University of Southern California. While in her program, she was a Graduate Assistant for the Rossier School of Education, a Student Ambassador for the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs, and a mentor for the Product of my Dream program. In May 2014, Tensie graduated from the Rossier School of Education with a Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs (PASA). She also received the following awards during her time at USC: Woman of Troy Award, Eme' Award, Trojan Service Award, Order or Arete, and Genuine Kindness Award.
Currently, Tensie is the Manager of the Black Alumni Association. In her role, she plans, coordinates, and executes programs and events for the Black Alumni Association; assists with the mentoring program; and is charge of the Black Alumni Association Scholars. She also assists with raising funds for scholarships for Black students. Tensie's hobbies include reading, singing, playing the piano and trumpet, volunteering, mentoring young people, and traveling. She has traveled to eleven countries and five continents. Her favorite quote is by Mahatma Ghandi: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world.
